Beautiful, original and signed 9 1/2 inches high by 8 inch wide by 8 inch deep ''Eagle'' red cedar wood mask carving with Russel's depiction in the style of the Ditidaht, Nuu Chah Nulth nation. This beautiful mask is adorned with cedar bark and feathers.
Russell Tait was born in 1966 in Port Alberni, British Columbia and is from the Ditidaht First Nation on the southwest coast of a Vancouver Island. He started carving in 2004, inspired by artists such as Art Thompson and the artists on the show, Ravens and Eagles. Mostly working on his own and learning the skills to be an artist in the medium of wood, specializing in masks and paddles. Now including small poles and miniatures or regalia. Some artists he has worked with include Ben David and Cecil Dawson.
Russel is very gifted and takes great care when he creates his masterful vibrant pieces with intricacy, balance and finish.
