Stunning 1 of a kind handmade intricate pair of Inuit Canada's Arctic Mukluks with wolf fur, caribou leather and hand sewn wool duffle lining. They are for an approx. 10 year old child.
They were bought in Yellowknife, North West Territories to wear with snowshoes. These handmade snowshoe boots consist of an outer moccasin, the upper part being made of caribou leather and wolf fur, and the foot from a single piece of caribou hide. There are two linings inside that are made of heavy wool felt or duffle : one tall one to cover the leg and foot, and a lower slipper to keep the foot warm.
Superb collector’s item, or to wear as your child's favourite pair of winter slippers or after ski boots.
Good vintage condition consistent with age. See photos. Good for snow and ice for many more years. The wool felt liners are in excellent condition. Top shoe leather to be treated with mink oil or other appropriate oil.
Worn 2 times, once by me at the age of 10 in the winter of 1980 on the frozen Great Slave Lake in Yellowknife North West Territories, and once for half hour by my 10 year old son in 2017 for these pictures.
Fine example of Indigenous style clothing from the Inuit of the North West Territories, Canada.
Authentic handmade 1 of a kind in Northern Canada.
