Worlds Online First Nations Gallery
Kanata was established to bring the very best of North American and Pacific Northwest Coast First Nations and Inuit art to a wider appreciation. The west coast artists of the Coast Salish, Nuu-Chah-Nulth (Nootka), Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakuitl), Haida, Haisla-Heiltsuk, Tsimshian, Gitksan, Nisga'a, Tlingit, Tahltan, and other First Nations of the plains tribes all the way up to the arctic regions of Northern Canada and stretching to the North American east coast, all bring a perspective rich in culture, legends, symbolism, and storytelling. No more are these excellent artists hidden from the world at large and their masks, totem poles, talking sticks, paddles, head dresses, bowls, boxes, wall plaques, rattles, traditional garb, hunting and every day tools, etc., all have a rich tradition and cultural importance that is subtle and personal. Each piece is unique and has its own meaning and story.
